This was a unique project the involved the bore to start at the ground surface with an exit in a lake approximately 20’ below water at a -23.9% grade. Our Team along with the help of tooling manufactures and other outside sources created a plan that would ensure success but also involve challenges throughout the process. We knew one of the biggest challenges would be getting the cuttings out of the hole on such a steep grade and to top it off the soils were solid limestone. The bore would require the use of an air hammer, pilot tube system, auger bore machine, bentonite (clay) slurry, specialty engineered reamers, and finally a crew with knowledge and patience. The bore took 90 days to complete and was on target and budget.
