This is another one of ClearPath's unique projects completed in 2020. The process involved the use of the pilot tube auger bore system. The crew was tasked with drilling a pilot hole from a few feet below surface grade to an exit point of approximately 10' below water at a -9.7% pitch into the Ohio River. This bore had been attempted before ClearPath's arrival which provided some valuable soil condition data. Rock, gravel, steel ingots, and brick were all encountered in the bore path and created a few challenges of locking down the cutterhead. The pilot hole was completed and then began the process of upsizing the hole and pushing the 30" casing to the river. Our expert teams' selection of utilizing the proper tooling and patience allowed for a successful completion of the project in just five days and within budget.
